Waipā District Council

Te Awamutu and Kihikihi General Ward
The Waipā District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of 11 councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). three councillors will be elected from the Te Awamutu and Kihikihi ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.   • Work with local business chambers to ensure needs of businesses are understood by council.

    Recognise the importance of tourism and specifically focus on Māori culture, food and ecological aspects.

  • Fully support local anchor organisations legislation and continue to promote Waipa Council participation.

    Support local business being used as first-choice suppliers for Waipa Council contracts and purchases and promote buying local if possible.

    Encourage Waipa Council and staff to meet with Chamber of Commerce and local retailers, business owners and discuss town development options.

  • Support community businesses and groups including Rotary, RSA and others to make our communities a better place to live, work and play.

    Support youth activities in Waipa.

    Actively attract businesses and community groups to the Waipa district.
