Waimate District Council

Waimate Ward
The Waimate District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of eight councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). four councillors will be elected from the Waimate ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.     Develop Waimate as a place to visit rather than just pass through; lots of tourists don't stop here.

    Use the council media group to advertise local events well outside the Waimate district, including walks, bike trails, disc golf and golf.

  • Work with businesses and community groups to enhance business growth and increase visitors to the town.

    Maintain, improve and provide new infrastructure where appropriate to encourage new businesses and employment.

    Work with the high school, the ecosanctuary and conservation groups to increase work experience for youth and others in biodiversity.
