Mayor of Nelson

The mayor is the leader of the council. Their job is to promote a vision for the city and lead the development of the council’s plans, policies and budget. The mayor appoints the deputy mayor, establishes committees for particular topics, and appoints chairs for those committees. This is a single transferable vote (STV) election, so you vote by ranking the candidates on your ballot paper.     See beyond money's corruption to enable only socially supported projects to be accomplished, including fewer vape stores and more hospitals.

    Free people to choose their own leaders and enable those who give more to become mentors or role models instead of those who took the most.

  • Maintain the regular presence at the Nelson Saturday Market with elected members that were initiated in 2022.

    Make greater use of independent random polling to ascertain public views on council performance and key issues.

    Build a constructive council democratic culture where different roles are respected and where people can disagree but not be disagreeable.
