Climate change and resilience
Climate change poses a huge challenge for communities as more frequent extreme weather events require us to rethink how we live and where. Local authorities are at the forefront of efforts to respond, with responsibilities for environmental planning and regulation, as well as civil defence. Many councils have plans to reduce emissions in their area and are working to help their communities adapt to a warming world.

Progress districtwide emissions reduction work towards net zero by 2040.
Support community initiatives to reduce emissions.
Complete tree strategy and accelerate work to increase tree coverage across the district.
Stop the fear and monitor climate change with sustained wet peg proposals. My view is firm and already submitted to Kapiti Coast District Council prior to the long-term plan.
Continue to investigate waste management solutions that reduce waste and carbon in the environment with a 17.5% return on investment.
Enhance access to medical facilities, including hospitals, for dealing with potential civil defence emergencies.
