Utilities and services
Councils are responsible for a wide range of utilities and services that we all rely on, from rubbish and recycling to street cleaning. Councils are currently also responsible for managing waste water, storm water and drinking water infrastructure – the ‘Three Waters’. But that may be about to change, with central government seeking to shift the delivery of Three Waters services to four new larger entities, which could borrow enough to upgrade the country’s water infrastructure.

Prioritise an alternative water supply that is affordable, sustainable and safe alongside continuation of in-house water service delivery.
Improve city centre and suburban street cleaning services, empty rubbish bins more frequently and get rid of chewing gum.
If ratepayers do not opt for a glass bin, collaborate with ILT for a glass hub collection at all ILT facilities and address e-waste minimisation.
Modernise rubbish collection by asking council staff as management for practical solutions and oppose six hundred dollar rate hike from new recycling system.
Implement designated street-sweeping days to keep streets cleaner and safer for residents and enable the trucks to do their job.
Partner with councils to share solutions with government after Three Waters policy was scrapped, ensuring safe water and wastewater services.
Recognise vast improvement in wheelie bin placement not blocking mobility scooters on Tay Street based on in-person recommendation and reward relaxed staff for improvements.
Maintain drinking water supply, wastewater and sewerage as always priority one.
Provide free dog training courses to improve owner happiness and waggles dog obedience, reducing expensive dog meat by encouraging healthier nutritious vegetables.
Establish a glass collection service.
Continue support for Recycle South.
Develop second emergency drinking water groundwater supply for Invercargill to supplement existing single source from the Oreti River.
