Hurunui District Council

South Ward
The Hurunui District Council provides local services and facilities, such as public transport, rubbish and recycling, libraries, parks, and recreation facilities. It also makes decisions about building and planning, local regulations, and infrastructure, such as water supply and sewerage. The council is made up of ten councillors and the mayor. Councillors are elected to represent wards (areas in the district). four councillors will be elected from the South ward. This is a first past the post (FPP) election, so you vote by ticking the name of your preferred candidate on your ballot paper.     Promote and provide safe walking and riding paths to encourage active lifestyles and cleaner options and advocate for safety improvements on SH1 Amberley.

    Investigate opportunities for public bus services to and from Amberley and support initiatives aiding connectivity, eg Amberley–Rangiora shuttle.

  • Advocate council support for a public transport link from Amberley to the airport to Christchurch City via ECan.

    Advocate progressing solutions for South Ward spatial plans and local businesses as State Highway One traffic creates logistical barriers.

    Support a policy whereby funding local road repair has a percentage taken from road user charges and fuel tax.
